Bangalore
will host the 14th World Congress on Total Quality
from January 23 to January 25.
The theme of the event, which is being held for the
first time here, is "Triple bottom line approaches
for building corporations that last."
Importance
of theme
Explaining
the theme, the Chairman of World Quality Council,
Madhav Mehra, said: " One of the biggest task
of corporations today is to bridge disparities; that
is why the focus is on the triple bottom-line: profit,
people and planet."
The
focus on profit alone would sharpen disparities and
create a wedge in society, Dr Mehra said.
"Disparity and inequality are the biggest time
bombs for business and can threaten its survival.
It is in the interest of business to ensure equality,
transparency and quality," he said.
'Scenario
not good'
"Despite
predictions of the Sensex soon touching the 6,000
mark, things are not all that good on the economic
scene.
The second half of the 1990s saw a fall in food production
while 30 million were added to the population.
Literacy
is still low and hunger prevails," Dr Mehra pointed
out.
The three-day event will see the Golden Peacock Awards
for Quality, Innovation management Product/ Service
being presented.
A jury headed by the former Chief Justice of India,
A M Ahmedi, is now sifting through the nominations.
The would congress will also have 65 speakers and
nearly 350 participants.
The
would congress will focus on the application of the
Six Sigma principle for quality in the service sector,
corporate social responsibility and environment management
systems.
