OCCUPATIONAL
HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CERTIFICATION TO OHSAS
18001:2002
An OHSMS is a structured process
to minimize potentials of work related fatalities, injuries
and illness and to increase productivity by reducing the
direct and indirect costs associated with accidents which
improves the quality and reduces the cost of manufactured
products and / or services rendered.
In the charged global business environment, of industrial
development, there is a sustained worldwide endeavor to
adopt a cost effective management system similar to the
quality or environment management system for Occupational
Health and Safety practices in an organization. The system
aims at eliminating or reducing workplace hazards by identifying
and controlling the impact of the present and potential
hazards in a timely manner. Based upon BS 8800:1996 and
the OSH-MS and ILO Guidelines, the OHSAS 18001:1996 specification
provides an internationally recognized framework for certification
of an organization's Occupation, Health and Safety Management
system .
The OHSAS 18001:1996 is compatible for integration with
other management system standards eg. ISO 9001:2000 and
ISO 14001:1996 and its implementation, as a standalone system
or as a part of an integrated management system, provides
a proactive approach to an organization to safeguard its
occupational health and safety risks and demonstrates its
commitment to safeguard its employees from likely accidents;
besides compliance with legal and statutory labour legislation.
